mine eyes
by Maverick.214
i watched and wondered
grasped and lost
a piece of yesterday;
but it was not for a hopeless fix,
but it was not for a desperate rage;
mine eyes have not been gouged by my burning tears.
on a ridge that impatiently sits
between the illusion of the past
and unfulfilled promises of tomorrow, i feel my soul dangling far above earth;
but it was not for a foolish act,
but it was not for a broken heart;
mine eyes have not been clouded by such private fears.
in marriage and death there comes understanding
upon chance and circumstance that we both tell lies
of lost innocence upon ignorance, where by chance when truth is too painful;
but it was not for a moment of false pride;
but it was not for a dark dance of deception;
mine eyes have not been opened by such failures throughout our years.
and now as you sit by my side,
watching and waiting for a new dawn,
i remember why i fell in love with you.
but it was not for a youthful summer of love;
but it was not for a chance encounter;
mine eyes have not been lowered by the impermanence of time for, indeed, it disappears.
