if and when
if and when you run
there will come a time when you fall
right smack dab on your face;
it'll hurt,
really hurt.
not a soul will care,
not even poor old Mother Teresa;
haven't you heard?
she's dead.
you can cry if you like, it's okay;
but just so you know?
she's been dead for some time, now.
pick yourself up,
wipe off the dirt and blood,
and try to fake a smile;
adults do this all the time,
and i mean ALL the time.
keep walking forward,
never look back unless there's something to learn
about the time you fell on your face;
keep your heart on your sleeve,
knowing that it's okay as long as you are tough on the outside;
not soft on the inside and even softer on the outer.
be kind, compassionate but always realistic;
be truthful, be loving but always ready to leave.
and for, god's sake, stay out of any relationship
that involves a lot of ass kissing;
you can't be in love if you have to kiss somebody's ass
for the rest of your life.
find your center,
find your partner;
make passionate love,
don't just fuck.
forget about the ass-kissing rule
in the bedroom;
it's okay to beg for sex,
men and women do it ALL the time.
just remember
to be realistic, ready to leave, always moving forward.
if and when you run
and that time comes when you fall;
pick yourself up,
fake a smile,
and don't think too much about it.
