Micropoetica, 1/3

taking moments (Poem 39 from Micropoetica: Meditation Medication)
by Maverick.214

i took a picture of you, today
and stared at it in my mind for hours on end;
drove through winding city streets and ended up at a fork in the road,
choosing neither path but my own way.

i took a moment to thank you, last night
and prayed about it in my heart forever...despite everything that happened;
slept under a billion stars and one moon in the thickest part of the galaxy,
dreaming for neither yesterday nor tomorrow but for only what is right.

i took so much away from you, the day before
and forgot about it in my guilt forever...despite everyone that you took away too;
walked up a straight hill and over several mountains in the deepest part of my soul,
hoping for neither retribution nor retaliation but for only an end to our personal war.

i don't know what else to take, now
and stopped worrying about it from this moment on...despite everywhere I go you are there;
counted all the days left behind and the broken pieces in the shattered emptiness of my life,
wanting for neither past nor future but for only a moment of happiness, somehow.
